The small zoo making a BIG difference!
What is the Shaldon Wildlife Trust?
The Trust is a unique organisation which cares for some of the world's most
endangered species. Our centre, set in about one acre of lush semitropical
garden, nestles into the hillside above the attractive coastal village of Shaldon
in South Devon.
As the smallest member of the British and European Association of Zoos and Aquariums
(BIAZA and EAZA) we have concentrated our energy and expertise on smaller animals,
which are just as interesting, if not more so, than their larger relatives.
The Trust has a unique and special atmosphere; a place where people can relax
and enjoy learning about animals.
We are very much part of the local community, as with only 2 paid staff, we rely
on the skills and talents of a team of over 40 volunteers and students for all
aspects of our work.
