Through its "Keeper for a day" programme Shaldon Wildlife Trust offers people
the chance to roll up their sleeves and really get involved in the daily work
of a keeper. They experience close contact with the animals by spending the day
helping with food preparation, feeding, cleaning out and anything else that might
happen! It's a unique opportunity to learn all about the important conservation
work that is done at the Trust and a chance to get close to the wonderful animals
that live there.
"Everyone that has taken part in this seems to have got a lot out of it and has
gone away inspired to learn more".
Malc Huckvale, a volunteer at the Trust, started as a "Keeper for a Day" and has
now decided to change careers. He is now studying animal care at Bicton College
and hoping eventually to work with animals full-time, completely different to his
previous job in banking.
16-year old Chris Skidmore was given this experience as a birthday present and
is now volunteering at the Trust as part of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Scheme.
For just £50, you can enjoy this fascinating and rewarding experience, or you can give
it as a gift to someone special.
The money raised from this unique experience goes directly towards the conservation
work of the Trust and the upkeep of the highly endangered species that live there.
