Volunteer

With only 2 paid staff (the Director and Head Keeper ) we rely on the skills and talents of a large dedicated group of volunteers for all aspects of our work. From the gardener to the bookkeeper, and the membership secretary to the web designers, so many people give their time to supporting the Trust.

In addition to our volunteers we also provide placements for several local voluntary, statutory and government agencies including:

Volunteers from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
Prince's Trust placements
School children on work experience
South Devon, Bicton and Cannington College students
Devon youth offenders
School leavers with special needs
University students for research and study
And many others.

This also means the work of staff is all encompassing, ranging from preparing feed, cleaning (and building!) enclosures to giving school talks, updating the computerised animal records and managing the cashflow. In addition we hold the European studbook for the silvery marmoset and black-tailed marmoset and monitor population trends for the ocelot and tree shrew. Life is definitely never dull!
