Behaviour Lives on the ground and is mainly nocturnal. During the day it shelters in temporary nests of ferns or thickets of wire grass.
Diet Herbivorous, with a particular taste for fungi.
Habitat Found in a variety of forest types.
Threats Introduced predators such as foxes and dogs, and also habitat disturbance from timber operations.
Status The long-nosed potoroo is becoming rare due to bush fires; poisoning intended for rodents and being preyed upon by foxes, domestic dogs and cats.
