Pangolin Conservation

| 19th February 2017 | Blogging

The 18th of February was World Pangolin Day! Here at Shaldon we are pleased to be supporting the One More Generation campaign! Just download one of the images below of a blank pangolin, colour them in, then send them to the zoo! Here at SWT we also support a program called the Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Program, and by submitting your colouring you will be entered into a prize draw to win an adoption of one of our beautiful Owston's Civets, another ambassador for Vietnamese conservation. You can send your entries by post to: Shaldon Zoo, Ness Drive, Shaldon, TQ14 0HP or attach it in an email to: julie@shaldonwildlifetrust.org.uk  Your work will also be sent to the OMG campaign, where it will be placed on a banner and displayed at Hartsfield International Airport, along with other banners from around the globe. Happy Colouring!   5 Facts About Pangolins:   Pangolins, also known as scaly anteaters, are unique creatures that are covered in hard, plate-like scales To protect themselves, they curl into balls like hedgehogs. They are the most trafficked mammal in the world because people want their meat and scales. A pangolin’s tongue can be longer than its body when fully extended is can be 40 cm long! Pangolins have large, curved claws that they use for excavating ant and termite nests                     ...

Success at SLOW!

| 25th October 2016 | Blogging

We had an amazing time last night hosting the launch of the Little Fireface Project's award winning film by Spires Media: ‘The Plight of the Javan Slow Loris’. It was lovely to see so many people showing their support for this vital field conservation project and thanks to you all we raised the splendid amount of £375 which will go directly to the Little Fireface Project. The film was a huge success and we have had fantastic feedback about the evening. You can watch the full length version, by clicking the link below. This event started S.L.O.W. (Slow Loris Outreach Week) and Shaldon Wildlife Trust will be out and about with Tereh, the Little Fireface Project’s slow loris mascot, during the half term – come along and say hello at Morrisons in Teignmouth tomorrow where Tereh can be seen helping people pack their bags between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. http://youtu.be/_i98EJtzQGQ   ...
